Inspirations Paint Women’s League Champions take on Canberra Region Rugby League Premiers
With interest in women’s Rugby League continuing to grow across the region, the Illawarra Division Rugby League will create an additional opportunity for the best teams and players to show their wares when it hosts the inaugural “Premiers Challenge”. Vying for the crown will be 2017 Inspirations Paint Illawarra League premiers, Corrimal, and the Canberra Region Rugby League open premiers, Queanbeyan Blues.
In a unique scenario, both teams have enjoyed undefeated seasons in their own competitions, making this challenge a true indication of the increasing standard of play in the women’s game. The winner can claim to be the best team in CRL women’s Rugby League.
Both teams feature players who have starred at representative levels in 2017, with the Illawarra and Canberra Tarsha Gale Cup squads and CRL representative teams.
This challenge match between Corrimal and Queanbeyan will be the first match in a big day of grand finals on Sunday 10 September at WIN Stadium, with kick-off at 10.15am.
The Corrimal club will soon take off to Canada to take on the Canadian national team, the Ravens, in a warm-up game as part of the Canadian’s preparations for the Women’s World Cup which gets underway in Australia in the coming weeks. The Cougars have set themselves a goal of grabbing all silverware on offer before they head to Canada, and will be treating this as another grand final.
