NRL School Girls Finals Day
There were more than 100 girls in attendance that represented their schools across the local junior leagues Brisbane, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast yesterday at Carina JRL (19th October). With a total of 7 teams participating in the School Girls Finals Challenge, the girls enjoyed a day of competitive Rugby League games in the Under16’s and Opens Divisions.
The stage was set and the supporters of the girl’s game came in droves. Each and every team took to the field with enthusiasm, pride in their jersey and a smile on their face. As for many of these girls it was their first time representing their school at a highest level of School Girls Rugby League. Each division display some high quality Rugby League however at the end of the event Merrimac State High School were the Open Divisional winners and Wavell State High School took out the Under 16’s Division.
The event was used as means to recruit and retain girls to the game in preparation for future School Girls Rugby League Competitions and pathways. Local Broncos and Titans Challenge will be held again in 2016 in the lead up to determine the overall School Girls champion.
