Sun Shines On Country Cup Finals
After recent rainfall which has caused a delay in the commencement of both Illawarra and Group 7 JRL competitons, players were finally able to enjoy some Rugby League at the Southern NSW Country Cup Finals held at Bomaderry Sporting Complex on Tuesday.
Teams from as far south as Lumen Christi College in Pambula made the trip to compete for a spot in the Country Cup State Semi Finals in Cootamundra. Holy Spirit College proved why they were the early favourites to advance through to the State Semi's in the Open division, finishing on top of their pool in convincing fashion.
Albion Park High School proved too strong in the U'15 division while Illawarra Sports High School and Kiama High School fought a close battle in the U'13 division, with Illawarra Sports running out winners by 12 points to 8.
Holy Spirit College Opens coach Stephen Woodley was full of praise for his teams performances over the day. "The boys played really well, we actually had a couple away so we worked really hard to progress through".
While Woodley was extremeley impressed with the team effort, he felt there were a few players who showed great potential, "Our winger Silas Lawther had a great game today, I felt our halves Andrew Toohey and Callum Waldlock led us around the park really well and our centre Steve Masters looks to be a real player of the future".
