Clermont to host Country Week clash

The Queensland Rugby League has today announced the venues for this year’s Intrust Super Cup ‘Get in the Game’ Country Week with Clermont being announced as the host venue for the Central Queensland Capras versus Redcliffe Dolphins clash.

As revealed by the Hon Mick de Brenni MP on Channel Nine’s match-of-the-round broadcast today, Bamaga, Julia Creek, Munduberra, St George and Winton will join Clermont as host venues with Intrust Super Cup action in their own backyards on the weekend of July 22-23.

It’s a historic year for Clermont as the town commemorates 100 years since being washed away during the worst flood in Australian history in 1916, which claimed more than 60 lives.

Central Highlands Rugby League President Frank Lambley says this announcement is great news for Rugby League in the Central Highlands.

“The Central Highlands last had the opportunity to host a Country Week fixture in 2014 with Easts hosting the Capras in Emerald in front of a massive crowd,” Lambley said.

“This announcement is great news for the Central Highlands region and I commend the State Government for giving back to grassroots rugby league through the ‘Get in the Game’ initiative.”

“I’d also like to thank the QRL and Central Division for giving Clermont and the greater Central Highlands community the opportunity to host Capras versus Redcliffe and we look forward to putting on a good show.”

The Clermont Bears will host the Dysart Bulls in the only Men’s fixture being played on July 22 meanwhile in the Women’s competition, Clermont will host Blackwater and the Cowgirls play Dysart in a double-header prior to the Intrust Super Cup match.
