Storky's Grand Final Preview
What a weekend of rugby league to get us to this year's grand final!
Well done to the Bluff Rabbitohs coming from fourth spot and securing a spot in the grand final after a 27-14 win over Clermont.
The Blackwater Crushettes upset the Emerald Tigers Ladies 38-20, setting up a great grand final in Middlemount this weekend.
The Panthers will be hard to beat at home but remember it is the last game of the year.
I was told at the start of the year that Middlemount will have their strongest team on the paddock at the grand final.
Having Leigh Coghill in the forwards is certainly good for them.
Mitch Wyatte and Joel Duffy in the halves is dangerous as they know how to show their team around and have strong running games.
Ryan Hansell in the centres can motor through a hole and Matt Heidecker is having a good kicking and running game.
Bluff have Jade Wogand and Peter McLaughlin in the halves.
Jack Dagan has been playing good football and Billy Byrne will be at his best as the lead prop.
Chris Conway is the danger for the Panthers as he makes ground every run and is always a threat.
Dane Heron should also be back from injury.
Jack Laxton in the second row and Chris McKay out wide in the centres will make the Rabbitohs’ edges strong.
They are a strong side and go all day - watch out for the Rabbits.
My tip for the grand final is for the Panthers to win as they are at home and have a lot to play for.
The Blackwater Crushettes will make their maiden grand final appearance following a 38-20 win over the Emerald Tigers Ladies.
The Crushettes dominated the second half with Mariah Storch, Olivia Hamilton and Miranda Baker all working well in the middle of the park.
After three years, it’s the Crushettes’ first opportunity to bring the premiership trophy to the Coal Capital, but they will face a determined Clermont Bears outfit who will be looking for revenge after last year’s loss in the decider.
The Crushettes are on a roll following the draw against Clermont, a win against the Cowgirls and then another win against the Emerald Tigers.
They will need to use their support players a lot more to worry the Bears.
The Bears have good players in Tegan Rolfe at five-eight, Elle Waters at lock, Carly Bell in the second row, Kailah Rogers at fullback and Melissa Micallef in the centres.
Rogers has a strong game and will need to be contained if the Crushettes want to win.
I’m expecting Rolfe to be the mastermind behind the show who could direct them to a win.
For my tip, I feel the Crushettes will win on the back of their enthusiasm in the recent weeks.
The main thing is for all four sides to enjoy their footy on the day and I encourage everyone to get to Middlemount this weekend and cheer on their local team!
