Exciting weekend to finish regular season

The action is hotting up as we get closer and closer to the finals series!

Middlemount beat Blackwater on Friday night with the Panthers the better team at home, only letting the Crushers score just before halftime with Colby Napper crossing to try and stay in the game.

Leigh Coghill had a good game for the Panthers, showing they are revved up for the finals series.

Despite the loss to Bluff, the Panthers could be eyeing off top spot.

They play Springsure this week at Springsure and should be a great game with all of Springsure there to support their team.

The Mountain Men travelled to Clermont on Saturday but were contained all over the paddock.

They couldn’t break through with their good back lines.

Something may have to change for them to continue to be a threat.

This is the closest they have been in a few years to playing in the big dance.

The Bears won 36-20 with Tom Murray leading the way as one of the better players on the night.

Springsure started the night scoring first after 9 minutes through Tom Kelbassa but Clermont was next with Bo King and Mitch Gall to lead 12-4 at halftime.

Springsure came out in the second half and scored first after 10 minutes with Ray Ebsworth crossing the line but then the avalanche of Clermont tries came along through Brodie Barrett, Tom Murray, Dylan Breckon and Bo King.

Clermont let the Mountain Men in for two tries in the last two minutes of the game with Ray Ebsworth and Jamie Priddle crossing the line.

I have a couple of questions…

Are Springsure up to the task?

Can Clermont play for the full 80 minutes?

I believe only time will tell.

In other results, the Tigers were way too good for the Cowboys, winning 56-12 and Buff beat the Dysart Bulls 40-22.

The win keeps Bluff and the Tigers still on track for fourth spot.

It’ll be a great tussle on Friday night when they meet in Emerald for the final competition game of the year.

The Tigers need to win by 22 points to make the finals series and be a chance of defending last year’s premiership win.

Blackwater face Clermont with the Bears hoping for the minor premiership honours if they can get the win and Springsure and Middlemount face off in Springsure with the results of Saturday night determining what positions the top three will finish.

In the Women’s competition, the Clermont Bears Ladies play the Blackwater Crushettes with a win giving the Bears back-to-back minor premierships.

In the other Women’s match, Dysart need to win by 50 points over the Cowgirls to steal fourth spot from them – it’s a tough ask but they are at home which is a huge advantage.

It’s certainly an exciting weekend of rugby league!

Middlemount held there 35-year reunion on the weekend with at least 100 people attending from out of town, being former players and officials of the game.

They had a good rollup at the races the following day.

It was good to see some older faces there.

Get down to your local footy this weekend!
