Tigers roar in double premiership season

The Emerald Tigers celebrated their roaring 2016 season in style at the annual Tigers Presentation Night on Friday.

The success in 2016 was highlighted throughout the night, with the club filling up the trophy cabinet with all but one available trophies on offer.

The Tigers etched themselves into the history books in 2016 as the first team to win dual premierships in the new Men’s/Ladies format, but the two premiership trophies aren’t the only silverware now proudly in the cabinet.

The Tigers Men’s side were crowned 2016 Minor Premiers and to claim the Conway Family Shield, meanwhile the Tigers Ladies were the inaugural winners of the Highlands Hit Out.

On the night, the club paid tribute to the hard work, dedication and commitment made by all of the players, coaching staff, volunteers and supporters throughout the season.

President Jay Edwards thanked everyone involved in making 2016 the year of the Tiger.

“Winning a premiership gives you a pretty good feeling, but the feeling I got this year was something I hadn’t felt since 2003,” Edwards said.

“To win both premierships, like we did in 2003 is just such a good feeling and makes you so proud to be part of this club.”

“To all the players, staff, committee, volunteers, sponsors, supporters and families, thank you so much for all of your support and assistance in 2016. These premierships are for you.”

The club also made a special presentation to outgoing President Jay Edwards and Treasurer Brooke Walker who together have made a huge contribution to the club over several years.

The club is looking to be the first club to become back to back premiers in both the Men’s and Ladies competitions and are looking forward to a big 2017 season ahead.
