Thanks for listening in 2016!

CAMERON STALLARD

In the Central Highlands, we are faced with an issue that has previously been a roadblock to supporting our local footy team….distance.

Every local team has certainly done their fair share of kilometres, as has their loyal supporters to cheer on their local footy team win, lose or draw.

Sometimes, supporters are unable to make it to games to show their support, but this season, the support hasn’t just been heard at the grounds.

Through our unique “Spreaker” live calls of the game, we’ve been able to make inroads to overcoming the distance issue and bring the game to those who can’t be there.

This season we were able to cover 32 Central Highlands games (including a very successful Finals Series), the Central Highlands Junior Rugby League Grand Finals and various Representative matches, including the entire Central Division 47th Battalion Under 20’s carnival.

This resulted in over 25,000 people listening in with over 2,500 people listening to the Central Highlands Rugby League Grand Final.

Calling local footy week-in, week-out has turned out to be a tradition in the Central Highlands over the past two seasons and not only is it a bit of fun to do each weekend, but it is truly rewarding.

Every week we receive dozens of messages from our loyal listeners who tune in to catch their local teams play. It is truly rewarding to get messages from family and friends of players who can’t make it to games because they live away or are at work etc.

The most rewarding aspect of calling the local footy is receiving heartfelt thanks from proud parents who can listen to their sons and daughters give their all week-in, week-out.

As we bid farewell to a very successful 2016 season, I’d like to take the opportunity to say a massive thank you to all of our loyal Spreaker listeners.

Whether you’re someone who has listened to us once or twice this year or are a diehard listener (yes, that’s you Robyn Kilpatrick! :), thank you so much for being a part of our lives over the last six months. The number of listeners we have every week has grown incredibly and we are blown away by the number of people who want to listen to us talk rubbish each week as we cover the local season!

I must also take this opportunity to thank those who are involved in covering the games weekly alongside myself. To Frank Lambley, Storky Campbell, Mick Roach, Sally Galloway and Terri Weatherley, your assistance in covering the local season this year is greatly appreciated by the Central Highlands community and I look forward to joining you again next season.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be covering a few special “off-season” games including the Grand Final of the Battle of the Mines in Clermont on Saturday October 15th and the Springsure Mountain Men vs Rolleston Roos League/Union Hybrid Charity Match in Springsure on Saturday October 29th.

Thanks very much for listening and we can’t wait for your support next season.

I am looking forward to it.
