Tigers claw Wren Cup back

THE Wren Cup is making a habit of trading cabinets since its inception four years ago.

In 2013 the trophy was initially won by Barcaldine but it was the Tigers that won it at the weekend, albeit dramatically, winning 26-24.

With just minutes left on the clock and scores 24-18, Barcaldine scored a late try and locked it up from the sideline, ensuring extra-time was needed.

Battle-weary brothers and skippers Luke and Mark Wren said it was the most challenging game the two teams had played thus far.

"It was just a hard and fast game, really quick as well, we are pretty buggered," Luke said.

"We could have done without the last five minutes.

"We have to be a lot fitter that's for sure.

"It was good when he got the kick over to draw the game, probably the best result in a game like this.

"Then Zac said he was confident to take a shot at goal from long range, he just said 'get me close and I will nail it'. To his credit he was good enough."

Mark said it was a privilege to be a part of (the game) and loved coming up against his brother.

"It means everything to us, playing against your brother and the charity behind it," Mark said.

"We have been doing it for four years now and it is starting to pay off.

"Everyone is starting to get to know each other, there is no animosity in the crowd.

"The crowd was awesome, most likely the best we have had for this game definitely."
