CAMERON STALLARD - QRL MEDIA

Women’s Rugby League in the Central Highlands has seen a massive growth spurt of 775% in the past two years. With the game continuing to grow, the Purcell’s Engineering Central Highlands Rugby League is showcasing all female participants this weekend with the inaugural “Highlands Hit Out” Ladies Gala Carnival.

The inaugural event will see teams from across the Central Highlands attend to showcase their female talent and will also see special guests attend including former Queensland Women’s coach Beth Harlow and former Queensland and Australian player Joanne Barrett.

The Hit Out weekend will begin on Friday afternoon with a Coaching Clinic and games showcasing the Under 14’s and Under 17’s Junior Girls who are the future of the female game.

Saturday will showcase the current Senior Ladies in a 13-a-side gala day carnival, before the Gala Evening on Saturday night highlighting the success of the female game in the Central Highlands.

On Sunday morning, the gala weekend will wrap up with a Coaching Clinic hosted by former Queensland coach Beth Harlow.

The weekend will also see the delivery of female education and welfare programs by QRL Central Division Welfare and Education Manager Trish Drummond.

Central Highlands Rugby League President Frank Lambley believes it’s important the female game is recognised in the Central Highlands, particularly with the growth figure of 775% in the past two seasons.

“We’ve come a long way with the female game in the Central Highlands in the last two years with a growth of over 775% and it will be great to recognise this at the inaugural Highlands Hit Out this weekend” Lambley said.

“It should be a terrific weekend showcasing and celebrating our female talent and we hope to make this an annual event with teams from across the state travelling to compete in the weekend in future years.”

Games will commence at 1pm on Saturday at McIndoe Park Emerald. A Bar and Canteen will be running throughout the day with the Grand Final set to kick off at 4:45pm.
