Mountain Men raise $14,500 for local charities

The Springsure Mountain Men have raised just under $15,000 for local charities in the fourth annual half Rugby League/half Rugby Union charity match held in Springsure recently.

Together with the Rolleston Roos, the Mountain Men eclipsed last year’s record fundraising effort of $14,000 to raise $14,500 for local charities at this year’s event.

Organiser Megan Mayne says both clubs are very proud of raising this amount of money and is a great effort from both clubs and all involved.

“We feel that it is very important for both clubs to be able to give back to the Springsure and Rolleston communities. Without the support of the community, it is very hard for clubs to survive,” Mayne said.

“The charity match is the Mountain Men and Roos’ way of showing our appreciation.”

Five local charities servicing the Springsure and Rolleston communities will benefit from the night with $3,000 going to the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service, $3,000 to the Springsure Lions Club, $3,000 to the Rolleston Health Clinic, $2,000 to the Springsure Meals on Wheels and $3,500 to the Ivy Anderson Committee.

In the inaugural Women’s match, the CH Barbarians came from behind to win 16-5 against the CH Titans, and the Rugby League success continued in the Men’s game with the Springsure Mountain Men making it four straight wins defeating the Rolleston Roos 68-20.

The two clubs would like to thank Rolleston Coal, ESS Rolleston, Springsure Plant Hire, Mahady Electrical and Ben Smith Plumbing for their generosity in sponsoring the night and are looking forward to continuing the tradition next season.
