Storky's Footy Talk - Rep Round

FRIDAY night football was back with the Emerald Cowboys beating the Springsure Mountain Men 44-40.

It was a high-scoring game with each side scoring seven tries and only the goal kicking made the difference.

Jaren Owens directed traffic for the Mountain Men and was instrumental in the lead-up and field work for the team, also scoring a try for himself.

Terry Delalande registered two tries himself from individual work.

Keiren Pratt opened the scoring for the Cowboys with a great dummy half try which he also repeated later in the game.

Front rower Mick Batts, Josh Briggs and James Reid led the way for the Cowboys busting up the middle with Josh Briggs scoring two tries.

The high scoring game left little for defence and whichever side fixes up that side of their game will have a better year.

The Emerald Cowgirls played the Crushettes in Blackwater at the weekend.

Both sides had players that were new to the game and were keen learners.

Monica Burns turned in a good game for Cowgirls, frequently hitting the ball up and applying herself in defence.

Both sides threw the ball around, letting all players have a turn at running the ball up and also tackling.

Crushettes looked certain winners but the Cowgirls tried hard.

It ended up a 24-16 scoreline but the game was good for both sides to let the girls know how the game is played.

Maranda Baker played hooker for the Crushers and this could be a future position for her.

Tashia Anthony and Sam Evans were good for Blackwater.

The eastern men's clash between Blackwater and Bluff started with the big forwards up front matching each other.

Rabbits Peter McLaughlin was instrumental in his side's points, directing traffic and showing the big men the holes. Shae Cox and Colby Napper for Crushers tried hard in attack but Bluff's defence stopped them.

Crushers lock Ryan Palmer tried all game with plenty of runs making ground.

Crushers has the biggest man playing for them in Vatham Hill and he scored a try at the end, barging over the line.

The game see-sawed for a while but Bluff were too good in the end. Josh Ford and Peter McLaughlin were the respective man of the match for their team.

Best of luck to the representative sides this weekend.
