League returns to Tieri for one night only
It’s been nearly three years since the final siren sounded at a Senior Rugby League match in Tieri, but it is all set to return this Saturday.
The Central Highlands Rugby League will host its upcoming Ladies and Men’s Representative Trials in Tieri this Saturday February 27 to assist in selecting the Ladies and Men’s Representative sides to compete in the annual Central Division 47th Battalion Carnival.
Even though Senior Rugby League is set to return in Tieri for one night only, QRL Operations Manager Cameron Stallard believes it won’t be the last time we see Tieri No. 1 Oval lit up for the occasion.
“It was a great loss to the Central Highlands competition in 2014 when the mighty Pirates were not able to field a side due to the mining downturn” Stallard said.
“Rugby League however has not stopped completely in the Peak Downs area with a very strong junior club continuing to operate and dominate the junior competition. The interest to reform the Senior Pirates is definitely there as well with an attempt to bring new life into the club in 2016. Unfortunately, the club was unable to enter a side in for this year’s competition, but I can guarantee you that the interest is building and we hope to see the Pirates set sail and compete for the treasure in 2017 in both the Men’s and Ladies competitions.”
Rugby League is set to be played right throughout the day at Tieri No. 1 Oval with the Under 17’s Representative trials kicking off at 11am.
The North vs South Ladies trial will follow the U17s with kick off scheduled for 5:30pm and the Men’s North vs South trial will commence at 7pm. A Bar and Canteen will be running throughout the day and everyone is welcome to attend.
