STABILITY is sure to have been the key to re-appointing Terry Westblade as Brothers coach for 2018.

After the tumultuous sacking of Ben Black earlier this year, Westblade stepped up as interim coach for the second half of the Group Nine season.

One of the best credentialed coaches to have worked in the region, Westblade lifted Brothers out of the doldrums and took them to sixth on the table.

Westblade’s performance made him a near certainty to be handed the reins again next year, but employment concerns were a stumbling block for some time.

Brothers committee made the decision on Tuesday night and also retained Joel Berrigan as Westblade’s assistant coach.

The partnership between Westblade and Berrigan was popular with the playing group this year and gained the backing of the committee and supporters.

Westblade intends to start pre-season training for all grades in November, while applications for the reserve grade, Weissel Cup, Sullivan Cup and Leaguetag coaching positions are now open as well.

Significantly, Westblade will have ample time to consider any fresh talent needed at Brothers and also to run the gauge over this year’s list.

With Westblade re-appointed, only Temora, Junee and Tumut need to finalise their coaching position for 2018.

Matt Hands (Junee) and Grant Boyd (Temora) have already stepped down from their respective roles, but Jarrad Teka is yet to discuss his position with Tumut.
