NSWRL Respect Round - 20/21 May 2017

This weekend is the NSWRL Respect Round - 20/21 May 2017. On the back of a successful year in 2016, the NSWRL's 'Respect' campaign is set to continue this season in a bid to reduce unacceptable behaviour on the field and the sidelines.

The campaign was a huge success in 2016, with the total number of judiciary charges down by 33 per cent. Charges graded serious were down 68 per cent, while charges graded high down 63 per cent. The NSWRL hopes to build on these impressive numbers with a new, developed campaign in 2017. New provisions will include:

  • The 2017 campaign will continue have a key focus on sideline behaviour; 26 action cameras - used by referees last year - will this year be used by ground managers across all districts;
  • There will be a dedicated 'Respect' Round in May where coaches, players and referees will shake hands prior to kick-off in all games;
  • All Junior League coaches will wear a #letthemplay NSWRL COACH cap;
  • All team captains to wear yellow armband with letter “R” in reference to respect;
  • All mini players (under-6s, under-7s and under-8s) will be provided with a #respect water bottle (9,000 players);
  • Throughout the season, a monthly coach recognition program will identify and reward good Junior League coaches
