Norman Towells honoured by NSWRL

Congratulations to Balmain District Junior Rugby League & Five Dock RSL Rugby League Life Member Norman Towells who has been awarded the Gordon Lowrie NSWRL Volunteer of the Year for 2018.

With almost 30 years of service to Five Dock & the Balmain District, Towells was chosed from nominees across the 12 Sydney Metropolitan districts for the prestigious award.

“This is totally unexpected; I have won this acclamation for doing what I thought was something everyone did,” said Mr Towells.

“I didn’t know anything about Rugby League until one of my sons started playing 29 years ago … the rest is history.

“I love being involved because of the lifelong friends you make and the influence you can have on children and players through sport.”

The Balmain District also took home another two awards with Carlingford Cougars awarded the NSWRL #RESPECT Award & Nellie Hage from Enfield Federals awarded the NSWRL Women in League Award.

Balmain Junior League are incredibly proud of Norman, Nellie and the Carlingford Cougars for their honours.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
