Jillaroos Squad set to take on the World!!!

Eleven teammates from the victorious Queensland side from today’s Women’s Interstate Challenge have been selected as part of a stellar Jillaroo’s squad set to compete at Rugby League’s 2013 ‘Festival of the World Cups’ to be held in the UK this July.

The women were congratulated on their appointments by ARL Commissioner Dr Chris Sarra and NRL General Manager for Development Andrew Hill following the annual Women's Interstate Challenge in Brisbane, which saw Queensland dominate for the 15th year in a row, with a 30-12 victory.

"I was really impressed by the skill level and it was obvious to me that these ladies take the role of the being the best Rugby League players in the country very seriously," ARL Commission Dr Chris Sarra said.

"They are our games best women and they have been acknowledged as such with their selection into the national squad.”

The team comprises a number of experienced players including Murphy and Jess Palmer, daughter of NRL trainer Ron Palmer, along with a number of World Cup debutants including NSW representatives Samantha Hammond and Ruan Sims, Fire Rescue NSW and big sister of footballing brothers Corbin, Ashton and Tariq Sims.

"This will be the fourth World Cup that women have been represented at,” a victorious Queensland Captain and World Cup veteran Karen Murphy said.

"New Zealand has always had a strong hold on us, however looking at our 2013 squad I think the selectors have put together the strongest Jillaroos squad to date and I am excited to be part of that group.

"After playing in Brisbane today and feeling the intensity on the ground I think we are in a good position to work towards July,” Murphy said.

The team captain, to lead the Jillaroos into battle in July will be announced at a later date.
