Altona and Melton Women Do Battle for Vital Points
By Matt Hughes (NRL Vic Media)
This Saturday, Round 16 of the women’s first grade competition sees Melton and Altona do battle at Bruce Comben Reserve, in what is an important game for both sides.
Altona currently sit fourth on the ladder, while Melton sit fourth just two points adrift. A win to either side would be huge in terms of qualifying for the finals, with only two rounds to go after Saturday’s game.
Altona Coach Brandon Taunoa is eagerly awaiting the match.
“We’re looking good,” he said.
“This is a big game for us.”
The Roosters like most clubs have faced their fair share of injuries this season.
“We lost our captain to an ankle injury,” Taunoa said.
“That has meant we’ve had to debut a new-halves pairing.”
Those halves will have to be at their best on Saturday after Altona only just won the last clash between the sides 24 to 18. Taunoa conceded his side were “lucky” in that game.
“We only just beat them,” he said.
“We’ll have to shut down their hard runners on the weekend.”
In Saturday’s other women’s first grade games Truganina play Northern at Clearwood Drive Reserve, while Werribee Black take on Werribee Red at Haines Drive Reserve.
The Melton versus Altona game kicks off at 1.40pm.
