The Victoria Thunderbolts’ under 20s host the Newcastle Knights in round 12 of the Jersey Flegg Cup on Sunday, at Casey Fields.

Both teams will be feeling fresh after two weeks of bye rounds in the competition.

Thunderbolts’ coach Ben Jack is looking forward to the occasion.

“We’re really excited to be coming back after a two-week break,” he said.

“It allowed some of the players who had played all the games, some well-deserved rest.”

“I was impressed with our last performance and I am hoping we can build from that this week.”

Despite being a loss, that last match was a strong showing against a talented St George Illawarra side.

The side still has a few players out with injury, however they will be boosted by the return of forward Jordan Lieu on Sunday.

“We had a couple of losses from our last game that were longer injuries then expected and Uala Salia is fighting to get back from a hamstring Injury,” Jack said.

“Jordin Leiu is back in the team this week after missing the St George game through injury, so he’ll add some go forward and leadership.”

“We are hoping to have some other inclusions closer to kick-off.”

According to Jack the side needs to be more consistent, against a Knights side who are currently sitting in seventh spot.

“We need to build on the last performance and come out to Casey with a real aggressive and pressuring mindset,” he said.

“They’re a good side, with a strong junior base, they are a typical Newcastle junior rep team, with hard-nosed country style defence and open-play expansive attack.”

“I am really looking forward to this match as are our players and staff.”

The game kicks off at 2pm.
