Thunderbolts U20s v Dragons Preview

By Matt Hughes (NRL Vic Media)

The Victoria Thunderbolts under 20s take on St George Illawarra Dragons tomorrow, at Leichardt Oval, in round nine of the Jersey Flegg Cup.

The Thunderbolts will be itching for their first win after a frustrating loss to the Cronulla Sharks last week.

The Victorians will be bolstered by the return of captain Matt Stimson, as well Seu Seuiavatele. Both players have been out with injury since round five and have been named on the bench for the match.

According to Thunderbolt’s Coach Ben Jack the side is “feeling good”, after last weeks match against the sharks.

“We saw a lot of positives in our game,” he said.

The returns of Stimson and Seuivatele, among others, will be invaluable for the side.

we have lost a couple of players back from injury but lucky enough to have two Leadership group members returning as well,” Jack said.

The dragons are currently sitting in 6th spot on the ladder and are coming off a loss last week to the Eels.

Jack is looking forward to a good contest.

“They are a good side, they’ve matched and beaten some of the heavy weights,” he said.

“They’ve got a really strong forward pack and some dynamic outside backs.”

“They are coached really well and we will embrace the challenge ahead.”

Although the Thunderbolts haven’t been able to notch a win yet, Jack has been impressed by players commitment to the Thunderbolts’ squad.

“There are players continually stepping up that level, including some of our younger U18’s players.”

“We will continue to fight and put the effort in each week continually develop skilfully, physically and mentally so we put ourselves in the best position we can.”

The match kicks off at 12.30 pm tomorrow.
