The Experience Playing Against England

The Combined Affiliate States team has, while losing by a large margin, experienced firsthand the quality that is needed at the top level with their matchup against Rugby League powerhouse, England.
The two teams squared off in Perth last weekend (Friday 20th October), as a warm-up match for England’s World Cup preparation. In what was a mismatch in experience at the top level, it didn’t diminish the hope of the CAS side, who put everything on the line against a quality opponent.
While the 72-14 loss isn’t a great sign in terms of a result for the game, the boys can take great confidence in their future endeavours individually, in an experienced that will stay with them for life.
Brandon Taua’a said that while the team weren’t able to perform as well as they would have liked on the scoreboard, that ‘competing against one of the heavyweight nations of Rugby League was an unreal experience.’
“The one thing we can all take from the game is the ability to maintain your focus for the majority of the game.”
Coach Merg Mikaelian supported Taua’a’s comments, ‘facing a monumental task of facing a powerhouse is difficult,’ but he believed that while the game didn’t go their way, that each player followed the coach’s philosophy and that 110% effort was given by everyone.
‘It’s a real honour to be a part of this program and to be able to participate in such a big game,”
