Samoa women having held the Papua New Guinea side to a nil-all draw in their last match, to only lose the match in the penalty strokes that ensued, were aiming to get a good win today.
Fapene of Samoa scored the first goal of the match in the 10th minute with her teammate Sinaoleatonauna Vaeoso following up with the second in the 30th minute.
Straight after half-time the Ni Vanuatuans struck back with a goal of their own to Evelyn Kalsong.
But the Samoans would not be denied, managing to score two more goals, one to Soteria Noaese in the 46th minute and the other to Tuila Lenora Pereira in the 68th, to seal the win, 4 goals to 1.
With a narrow loss to PNG Women on Saturday, Peta Mualia-Teo, the Samoan captain said it was their intent that proved the difference today, “I guess (it was) the way we pushed forward. I told the girls not to think of the upset on Saturday but to think positive.”
She reiterated that they’re here to win! “Girls will have to work harder and give their 110%”
