Oceania Netball Comes to Samoa

Three countries competed in the Oceania Netball tournament; Samoa, the Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea.  While Fiji withdrew earlier from the series, a Samoan invitational side was also included in the competition.  The first game of the tournament (Samoa versus Papua New Guinea) Samoa had a convincing win over New Guinea, 65—55, well done Samoa.  The second day saw Samoa facing the Cook Islands, in what proved to be a fast moving, exciting, game that exploded as soon as the whistle blew.  Unfortunately, this time Samoa lost to the visitors 44-34. In spite of their loss, they played a thrilling game and captured the hearts of the local crowd. We congratulate the Cook Islands on their win. The Samoan Invitational side played the curtain raiser for this game, they gave a great performance against the PNG Pepes, who eventually won 64-40 over the Samoans.

Thanks to the Apia Park maintenance crew the exterior of the venue looked great for the series, with new paving stones being laid outside the complex entrance and the adjoining ablutions block receiving much needed maintenance for the occasion, everyone enjoyed an excellent series.

Kudos also goes to the Netball Association for their preparations. The floors were swept and freshly mopped, the court even received new floor markings, making the it look fresh and brand new.  The SSFA provided extra modular courtside seating for convenient close-up viewing.  Even the neighbouring Gym was made available for the teams, to change, relax and practice in preparation for their games.  We like to keep all our venues clean and well maintained.  Again we thank the maintenance crews for all their hours of hard work. Maintenance, is the bulk of our budget and it is also the hardest task, to make sure that everything is prepared and in working order for all events.
