Brian Bell and Trukai Invincibles completed round 2 of the One Day Sp Super Series with convincing wins over Telikom Titans and Steamships Hardware respectively. At Amini Park Brian Bell (8/160) defeated Telikom Titans (10/158) while over at Colts Grounds Trukai Invincibles (5/246) defeated Steamships Hardware (10/242). A man of the match performance by Wala Vala handed Trukai Invincible their second win in round two of the one day SP Super Series in Port Moresby yesterday. Invincibles beat Steamships Hardware by six wickets with four balls to spare after 49.2 overs in a heart throbbing down to the wire match. Skipper John Ovia (22 runs) once again showed discipline batting to help steer the Invincibles to victory along with Dala Momo (22) hitting the winning run off Kila Pala’s second ball of his last over. Steamships Hardware won the toss and elected to bat setting up a mammoth target of 242 in the first innings with Frank Doura (42), Frank Joseph (37) and Mavara Tamasi (74) setting up the foundation. Even though the Invincible bowling attack was too expensive the bowlers still managed to get the Steamies all out with all rounder Mahuru Dai leading the wicket takers with 2 wickets for 40 runs. In the second innings Trukai Invincibles had their run chase work cut out when Vala and Alfred Amini (16) put together a 76 run partnership for the first wicket. The first wicket fell at the spinning genius of 19 year old Rei Raga who was brought in at the 13th over to slow down the run rate. And Raga did the job for his side when he bowled a left out swinger to Amini who chipped it right into Frank Doura at first slip. The second wicket to fall was wicket keeper Piki Ravusiro who was let off the hook twice when the two ball’s he hit off Toka Gaudi’s deliver were dropped. But the following delivery Gaudi caught him out for lbw to put the Steamies back into the match. With two wickets in the bag the Steamies were full of steam to go home but the tide changed with Invincibles turning the match around when Mahuru Dai (43) and Eava Lamond (22) put on a 65 run partnership to erase any hopes of Steamships stamping their authority in the match. But Steamships struck back with Kila Pala dismissing Dai (lbw) and Lamond (caught by Frank Joseph) to bring the match back into balance. With 24 balls and 24 runs to finish the match Ovia and Momo played sensible cricket to defy all odds and register another hard fought victory for Trukai Invincibles. At Amini Park the return of Jamie Brazier inspired the twenty/20 champions to their first one day win over Telikom Titans. Brazier’s man of the match performance came from his bowling attack when he took three wickets for 30 runs and contributed 21 runs to help Brian Bell pass the 158 target set by Titans with one wicket in hand. Arua Dikana topped scored for Titans with 56 runs while Peter Arua and skipper Mahuta Kivung got two wickets. After round two Brian Bell leads the SP Super series with 6 points followed by Trukai Invincibles (5pts), Steamships Hardware (4pts) and Telikom Titans (3 points).
