Building on the momentum of winning 9 medals in Fiji
at the Wai Tui International Regatta this past Easter weekend, members of the
American Samoa Association of Paddlers (ASAP) organized Flag Day Fun Races to
join in
Territory-wide celebrations. The 2-day event featured a long distance 10 kilometer race on Friday afternoon, followed by sprint races on Saturday. Over 40 paddlers and support crew participated in this event.
Clubs from both ASAP and the American Samoa Canoe Racing Association (ASCRA)
competed in the long distance event on Friday. The all-womenâs team
âTeine
o le Taiâ performed well against the mixed teams of Alo o Samoa,
Team Tusi
and Team EPA.
Saturdayâs sprint races included 500 m and 250 m sprints, and a 1000 meter
turn race. Members from Laumei, Alo o Samoa, Team
Tusi, and Team EPA mixed
together for a high-spirited and entertaining competition. The races
culminated with a post-race party hosted by Team Tusi at the Pago Pago Yacht
Club.
