PNGOC President welcomes formation of Sports Journalists’ Association

Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee President Sir John Dawanicura has welcomed the formation of the PNG Sports Journalists’ Association.

NBC Executive Producer Sports Ephata Samuel is the president of the PNGSJA, EMTV’s Jeremy Mogi as vice-president and Quintina Naime from PNGLoop as secretary/treasurer of the newly formed association.

Sir John welcomed the help of Media Council of PNG President Alexander Rheenay in facilitating and marshaling the PNG media to the meeting held at the PNGOC headquarters.

“Thank you Alex (Alexander Rheenay) for your involvement and together we can make it happen in the Future through sustainable and committed efforts.

“This is just the beginning,” said Sir John.

Rheenay was looking forward to the collaboration now and into the future with PNGOC and PNGSJA

“The PNG Sports Journalists Association has been officially established following the election of office bearers,” said Rheenay.

“On behalf of the Media Council of PNG, my thanks to the PNGOC for providing the venue as well as providing lunch following the completion of the elections.

“It is now up to the new PNGSJA executive to take the association forward - the template constitution which you passed on will be the first agenda item for their consideration at their first meeting.”

MCPNG vice president and Pacific Islands News Association board member Janet Kwalahu thanked PNGOC and ONOC (Oceania National Olympic Committees) for initiating the formation of the association.

This went well and Ephata as President from NBC as the bigger media Organisation was good. Support from other Media equally good,” Kwalahu said.

The PNGSJA president said several meetings have been planned to sort out administrative matters for the new body.
