For the first time, Oceania has been invited to take part in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, and so PNG has been presented with yet another big event.

Going to Ashgabat for the first time would mean PNG, will have to overcome a different level of competition against some of the best in the Asian Region, come next month.

PNG will be taking part in swimming and weightlifting.

Having fared well in the last three years, the lot who will be carrying the PNG flag once more this time are none other than Dika Toua, her younger sister Thelma Toua, Lorraine Harry, Morea Baru, Steven Kari, and Toua Udia.

All of whom are in the top five of their respective categories in the commonwealth.

Morea Baru for one ended his stint in the Rio Olympics last year on a high note with an impressive 6th placing in the 62 kg category.

While the swimming Team has the likes of Leanard Kalate, Ryan Maskelyn, Ashley Seeto and Samuel Seghers.

Samuel Seghers might not join the team having recently lost his father to cancer.

Meanwhile, the PNG Olympics Committee sees this event as an ideal platform for preparations towards the Pacific Mini Games and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
