Athletes empowered to reach their full potential

Athletes were empowered to reach their full potential after participating at FASANOC Fiji athletes Forum held at Studio 6, Suva on Saturday 23 April.

The forum was hosted by Fiji Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) Athletes Commission to educate the athletes of their full potential.

Fiji Athlete Commission Chair Maryann Moss said most athletes involving in sport comes and go because they do not realize their full potential.

Mrs Moss said the forum is an educational career program aim at empowering athletes to know who they are in sport and personally know themselves.

“Most athletes involving is sport comes and go because they do not know themselves.

“It is when you know yourselves that you will know your full potentials,” she said.

Mrs Moss said the Athletes Commission as a body created to protect and hear the voice of the athletes has been organizing activities to empower the athletes.

She said some of the activities that had been done are Selection Justification and Voice of Athletes which were held at USP and Holiday Inn last year respectively.

She believes that out from the forum an assessment will be made which they will revisit in the next six month.

During the one day forum the athletes including representatives from sporting federations in Fiji discussed and listen to important components that play an important role in sports presented by different experts.

The important component are Sport Injury and Zika awareness, Sport Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Who am I, Game Plan and Networking.

The presenters included Professor Dr Eddie Mccaig on Sport Injury and Zika Awareness, Ms Natasha Sheron on Sport Nutrition, Dr Gaylene Osborne on Sport Psychology, Sarah Cowley of Oceania and Fiji Athletes Commission on Who am I, Game plan and Networking.

Mrs Moss acknowledges the presenters, the athletes and representatives from the sporting federations in Fiji for their participating adding the forum was a successful one.
