The regions best male table tennis players are coming to Bendigo in a winner takes all event for the 2016 ITTF-Oceania Championships & Olympic Qualification Tournament. With matches commencing on Sunday 20th March at the Bendigo South East College Stadium, before moving into the Ulumbarra Theatre for the final stage of the Olympic Qualification Tournament on Good Friday, 25th March.
The events will not only crown the ITTF-Oceania Champion, but will also determine who the 3 males and 3 females from the Oceania region will be, to represent their country's at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Success at the recent Australian Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Tweed Heads, Heming Hu will be looking to solidify his place as the new Number 1 Australian, following the surprise retirement of William Henzell. "My expectations for this tournament are qualify for the Olympics and also gain a singles spot for Rio. I will do my best and aim to be the number one qualifier in the region" said Hu.
With preparations for the 2015 ITTF-Oceania Cup affected by tropical cyclone Pam, which tore through Vanuatu, Yoshua Shing is looking to improve upon his performance this year.
"For the Olympic qualification I have been been finalizing my preparation in Sweden. It has been really tough for me, but I enjoyed every little bit of it, the training, the weather, the people, I was so blessed just to be here to upgrade my table tennis" detailed Yoshua from Falkenberg, Sweden.
Yoshua, who is no stranger to Bendigo, is looking forward to returning "It's a beautiful city, it's always a pleasure to come back. For me, Bendigo is a sport city, and it will be my fourth international competition in Bendigo, and I'm glad to be back."
The competition commences from 2:00pm on Sunday 20th March at the Bendigo South East College Stadium, with the final stage of Olympic Qualification taking place on centre stage at the Ulumbarra Theatre from 12noon on Good Friday, 25th March.

About the 2016 ITTF-Oceania Championships & Olympic Qualification Tournament
The ITTF-Oceania Championships are the longest standing event on the ITTF-Oceania calendar, and brings together the best athletes from throughout the region, battling for the coveted title of Oceania Champion, in Singles, Doubles and Team Events.
The ITTF-Oceania Olympic Qualification Tournament is the most prestigious event on the ITTF-Oceania calendar, and only takes place once every four years. It is the sole qualification event in the Oceania region, and sees 3 Men and 3 Women qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The 2015 ITTF-Oceania Championships will be staged at the Bendigo South East College Stadium from 20 - 24 March, followed by the ITTF-Oceania Olympic Qualification Tournament taking centre stage at the Ulumbarra Theatre on 25 March.
