THE HAGUE, 20 NOVEMBER 2015 (POST COURIER) ----The Hague in The Netherlands will play host to an “Olympic Experience” hub for Rio 2016 where fans will be able to get behind their athletes by watching the action on giant screens, the Dutch Olympic Committee*Dutch Sports Federation (NOC*NSF) has announced.
The beach venue will offer Dutch supporters unable to travel to the Brazilian city the opportunity to support their team, while various sporting activities will also take place.
The concept has been developed by sports marketing agency TIG Sports with the support of the NOC*NSF and local authorities.
Around 4,000 people will be able to visit the venue during the day, with the capacity reduced to 3,000 in the evening.
Former athletes and Olympians are also expected to attend the “Olympic Experience” hub, according to the NOC*NSF.
It is hoped the venue will spark community engagement and drive levels of support for Dutch athletes at next year’s Olympic Games while allowing adults and children to take part in up to 20 sporting activities which will be available throughout the event.
“Rio de Janeiro is located far from the Netherlands and therefore it is not easy for Dutch fans to attend the Olympic Games in 2016 to actually go and encourage Team NL locally,” NOC*NSF managing director Gerard Dielessen said.
Live coverage of the Games will be broadcast throughout and live entertainment will also be on offer.
“I am proud that The Hague in 2016 is re-host city of a major sporting event,” sports councilman of The Hague Rabin Baldewsingh said.
“The Olympic Experience is something unique for the Netherlands and The Hague.
“It is also a wonderful opportunity to involve the local and regional youth to Olympic sports and to let them make acquaintance with the Olympic experience and the values of excellence, respect and friendship.”
Admission to the “Olympic Experience” facility costs just €10 (£7/$11) for adults and €5 (£3.50/$5) for concessions, with tickets due to go on sale in the near future.....PACNEWS
