Ring ready

On the day that boxing was to begin, Doug Wall from the manufacturer Buffalo Sports in Rotorua, was busy making some fine tuning on the boxing ring at the auditorium.
When the boat in Samoa was stranded, Doug’s company was asked by the Cook Islands PMG09 committee to make a new boxing ring within seven days.
They said they would have to build a new ring from scratch and it didn’t look like they could do it, but they would try their best.
Six welders got together to make the ring itself; the pads and mat were made in Auckland; they had some flooring and foam materials but some still had to be obtained from Auckland.
Buffalo Sports finally promised to have the ring at the freight company by Friday morning in order to get on the early morning Sunday flight to Cook Islands.
That left Doug Wall and his crew two and a half days to set up the boxing ring in readiness for the evening boxing matches on Tuesday 23rd September 2009.
It is the first time that Doug has been to the Cook Islands and he says he will return.   He had dinner with Goldie Goldie, swam in Muri beach and ate raw fish every day.  He says that he has more family here than his own family and can’t wait to come back.
James Summer, the owner of the company, also came over to ensure that the boxing ring was set up and ready for the PMG09.
