12 NAMED TOP ATHLETES IN ALL-SCHOOLS MEET

The list includes Marianas High School's Lia Rangamar, Rachel Abrams, Ryan Ichihara, and Jim Lacsina, Hopwood Junior High School's Juan Babauta, Saipan Community School's Lydin Johnson and Tammy Ackerman, Tanapag Elementary School's John Quituga Jr., Koblerville Elementary School's Kasian Roca, Coby Santos, and Maya Ngemaes, and Whispering Palms' Naoki Kasai.

The four MHS students were chosen as top athletes in the U18 division after helping the Dolphins win the championship in their age group. Rangamar ruled three events, topping the long jump (4.65m), javelin (34.32m), and discus throws (24.44m). Abrams also reigned in three events; 100m (12.71 second) and 200m (28.44) runs and the high jump (1.33m). Both female athletes also ran for the Lady Dolphins in their first place finish in the 4x400m and 4x100m relay races. Ichihara and Lacsina led MHS to a gold medal finish in the 4x100m relay.

Then in individual events, Ichihara won in the long jump and placed second and third in the 200m and 100m races, respectively. Lacsina stunned Ichihara in the 100m run and finished second in the 400m, long jump, and javelin throw.

In the U14 division, Johnson and Babauta led the field. She finished first in the 400m run, and second in the 200m and 800m, and helped SCS win in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay races. Babauta prevailed in the 100m (12.08 seconds) and 200m (27 seconds) runs. Ackerman and Quitugua dominated the U12 division with the former ruling the 800m (2:49.51), 1,500m (6:08.42), and 3,000m (13:29.58) races and the latter winning in the 100m (12.85 seconds) and 400m (1:08.47) runs.

Roca and Santos were selected for the U10 age group. Roca triumphed in the 1,500m race, softball throw, and 4x400m relay, and placed second in the 3,000m run. Santos topped the 100m run and was part of Koberville's 4x100m relay winning team.

Kasai took the boys U8 top athlete award after a first place finish in the 800m and 1,500m runs, and 4x400m relay and second in the 400m. In the girls U8, Maya won the 200m and 4x400m and 4x100m relays and placed second in the 800m.

The 12 athletes will be recognized in a ceremony at 3:30pm with no less than McDonald's Saipan owner and general manager Joe Ayuyu honoring them.
