2017 - A Big Year for Vanuatu Sport
The first six months of this year have been busy to say the least for the VASANOC as it prepares, in partnership with the Van2017 organisation, to host the biggest sporting event in the sporting history of Vanuatu.
There will be more than 330 athletes across 16 sports representing Vanuatu and playing host to 23 other regional nations.
With Games preparations fully underway, VASANOC was bolstered by the support of three new members of staff in April, to assist in the delivery of its multi-facted responsibilities to all national sporting federations and particularly those 14 involved in the PMG.
Sacha Duthe is a volunteer from France, while Jess Richardson and Jill Scanlon arrived from Australia - each with their own specialist field - and were immediately immersed in the necessary tasks laid out for the successful delivery of these games.
The Games - as big an event as it is - is not the only sports action happening in Vanuatu.
Football, Cricket, Boxing, Athletics, and Beach Volleyball have all shone representing Vanuatu on the international stage with successful local seasons also enjoyed by Rugby League, Football, Cricket, Hockey, Netball and Basketball among others.
Sport is alive and well across Vanuatu with many community development programs adding to the breadth of work and activity being undertaken by all the sorting federations and the governing body.
