Vanuatu Volleyball Federation partnered with the Oceania Sports Education Program (OSEP) and supported by VASANOC have developed a Level 0 volleyball community coaching course at the Walarano Community Centre in North East Malekula from April 25 to May 2.

The community coaching course is a first of its kind not only for Vanuatu but for the entire Pacific Region where the foundation is to combine the basics of indoor and beach volleyball, with the aim of developing supportive and effective volleyball coaches in communities around Vanuatu and the Pacific.

Fifteen participants from Malekula, Pentecost and Ambae attended the course. The participants ages' ranged from 20 to 40 years old, men and women, including teachers, gardeners, and youth centre volunteers.

The course became a great success as participants appreciated the OSEP's professional trainers and also the abundant equipment support from the FIVB Development Commission through the Vanuatu Volleyball Federation.

OSEP's partnership with Vanuatu Volleyball to develop this new coaching accreditation pathway facilitated the recognition of such course across the Pacific. OSEP offers community, club and national coaching and administration courses and Pacific-relevant Sport Education framework. In turn, these programs assist sport stakeholders develop or fine tune systems to support the development of sport volunteers and professionals.

With this partnership in place, Vanuatu Volleyball is now making headway to put together a Level 1 beach volleyball curriculum for coaches, which will be conducted in Port Vila later this year.
