Pacific Games Council (PGC) Executive Board Meeting in Nuku’alofa 9th – 13th February

The PGC Executive Director has confirmed that the delegation will be made up of six of the members, with David Boyd, Secretary General unable to attend due to family reason. The members of the delegation are as follows:

Mr Vidhya Lakhan, President; Hon. Marcus Stephen, M.P,Vice President; Mr John Tierney, Treasurer; Mr Carl Probert, Athletes Commission; Mr Andrew Minogue, Executive Director.

According to Takitoa Taumoepeau, Secretary General of TASANOC, that apart from the Council holding its Executive Board meeting in Nuku’alofa, it is also an opportunity to meet with the Host Pacific Games Association (PGA) /TASANOC who won the right to host the Games in 2019, as well as the Host Government. Takitoa added that, “Tonga won the bid in October 2012 and the Host PGA (TASANOC) and Host Government as well as PGC had endorsed the establishment an Organizing Committee in April last year, which in a way we had lost 1and ½ year of ground work. And because we have just elected a new Government, it is also important for the PGC councillors to meet with the Hon. Prime Minister and members of the new Government”.

The PGC delegation will also meet the President and Executive Committee of TASANOC as well as Chairman/CEO and members of the Tonga 2019 Organizing Committee. They will visit propose sites and venues for the Games in 2019 as part of their visit before departing a week on Friday.
