KEAMA GOES DOWN FIGHTING

BOXER Charlie Keama gave his best but lost his fight yesterday (Wednesday) in the quarter finals in the men's 49kg division of the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 20-year-old lost to the older and more experienced Northern Irelander Paddy Barnes.

Keama, who won his first fight to get into the second round, started the first of three three-minute rounds well hitting back at Barnes.

However, Barnes used his experience to sneak in timely shots to Keama's head from time to time, to win the fight on points.

By the time the two came in for the third round, Barnes looked as if he was in control, despite Keama trying his best to pick up more points.

Earlier in the day, lone female fighter in the PNG boxing team Jacquiline Wangi also lost her fight on points to India's Pinki Rani in the 48-51kg division.

Though the fight was not really physical Rani looked more confident in the ring and dominated the four two-minute rounds.
