SP Brewery supports Olympic team

NEWLY-elected PNGSFOC President Sir John Dawanincura was on hand to receive a K100,000 sponsorship for Team PNG to the London Olympic Games.
The sponsorship from SP Brewery continues the brewer’s assistance to sports.
SP General Manager Stan Joyce said the sponsorship was to help the PNGSFOC send the elite athletes to next month’s Games.
Mr. Joyce said the main reason why SP had kept a long relationship spanning almost 60 years with PNGSFOC was because of the transparency in the usage of sponsorship money.
He acknowledged and also thanked the former PNGSFO President Sir Henry ToRobert for bringing national sports to new heights during his term on the board.
The SP boss congratulated Sir John on his election to the presidency saying he looked forward to continuing their partnership in developing sports.
Sir John, 67, thanked SP Brewery for their continued support saying it was timely with four weeks to go before the opening ceremony.
He added that weightlifters Dika Toua and Steven Kari, swimmers Ryan Pini and Judith Meauri, martial artists Raymond Ovinau and Theresa Tona were ready for London.
“Two out of four of our track athletes are confirmed.” Sir John added.
“But we are anxiously awaiting the final verdict that will be passed by the end of this week after the remaining two finish their events in the Oceania Championships in Melbourne to see if they can make the team,” Sir John said.
Dawanincura said Team PNG was set to make the country proud and the nation needed to get behind them.
