John Rivan runs Personal Best and earns spot on Oceania Medley Relay Team

John Rivan cruised to an easy win with a personal best time of 22:12 seconds in the D final of the 200m event tonight at the Bishan Stadium. Rivan took a commanding lead as he entered the straight and outstripped his rivals with a strong finish.

Despite the disappointment of a disqualification in Heat 1 of the 200 metres for a false start on Thursday 19th August, Rivan went onto to prove his worth as an upcoming athlete from Oceania.

The Athletics format was designed for each athlete to compete twice, with qualifying times determining the finals heat for athletes to run. John’s disqualification saw him run in the D final finishing first and 10th overall from a field of 22 runners in the four finals (A,B,C & D).

The A final saw China take out gold, Japan silver and Bronze to Germany.

Rivan was the only athlete from Oceania to run the 200 metres and with his stunning performance earned him a spot on the Medley Relay Team representing Oceania, which he will run the 200m leg on Monday 23rd August at 9:00pm (11pm PNG time).
