Palau NOC Annual General Meeting - 19th February 2009

On 19th February 2009 Palau National Olympic Committee and the National Federations held its annual general meeting at the Palau International Coral Reef Center Conference Room. The meeting was well attended, with thirteen out of fourteen sports in attendance. As this year’s meeting coincides with the new Olympiad, the main issues discussed addressed the strategic planning for the NOC as a whole and the adoption of the newly amended PNOC By-Laws. Olympic World and Continental programs and opportunities available to the National Federations for the next four years were also discussed at the meeting. In addition, the sports development officers, the International Inspiration Office and each of the sports federations gave an activity report for the year 2008 as well as their plans for the coming year.

The highlight of the meeting was the election of the new executive board members for the next four years. As amended in the By-Laws the positions of the executive board were changed to hold the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and three Directors. The position of Secretary General was changed to a permanent position appointed by the PNOC Executive Board, as opposed to an elected position.

Therefore, the newly elected officers of the Palau National Olympic Committee Executive Board are as follows: Frank Kyota, President; Bill Keldermans, Vice President; Laura Mangham, Secretary; Dr. Caleb Otto, Treasurer; Steven Patris, Director; Carolyn Ngiraidis, Director; Frida Delmau, Director; and Baklai Temengil, Secretary General.  The PNOC Executive Board also launched the celebration of 10 years of Olympism as a member of the International Olympic Committee. As part of the launch, PNOC President, Mr. Frank Kyota, announced the vision of PNOC for the next eight years: “Excellence through sport”
