RIO DE JANEIRO — Palau’s Rodman Teltull made Olympic history as the first athlete from his country to pass the preliminary rounds at the Olympics.
“It’s amazing. It’s an honor to represent my country. All I can do is give everything I can and the rest in history,” he said.
Teltull took first in his preliminary heat for the 100-meter sprint at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics Saturday.
His time of 10.53 was just shy of his personal best of 10.52, but it got him through to the next round in the 100-meter race and ranked him second after all the preliminary rounds were finished.
He said he was excited to get into his race after the preliminary.
“It’s going to be fun. I can’t wait. Usain Bolt, I’m ready for you,” he said.
He said he was still hungry for a personal best.
Unfortunately, in his next heat he got a 10.64, but he said he was happy to have gone out and competed.
