Beach Volleyball is Finally Here!
In case you are not very familiar with the sport of beach volleyball, let us tell you a little bit about it: Beach volleyball is a team sport played by two teams of two players on a sand court divided by a net. It has been an Olympic discipline since the 1996 Games. If you know how to serve, pass, set and spike the ball, then you will know how to play the sport! Beach volleyball is very similar to indoor volleyball with only a few modifications to the sport and how it’s played. Anyone can play the sport and have fun with it. One concern MIVF wants to address from the start is the beach volleyball uniform. Although it is required by the International Beach Volleyball Competition rules that players wear bikinis during the match, we have modified the rules a bit due to our cultural obligations. As long as your shirt and pants are not too loose, then you can play with numbers on the back of the shirt and front top left sleeve of the shirt.
The objective of this tournament is to identify our best beach volleyball team as a qualifier to represent the Marshall Islands at the Oceania Beach Volleyball Championships that will be held in the Cook Islands in the fall. Showcasing our best competitors in this tournament is not the only purpose. We would like to introduce the beach volleyball concept to the community. The 1st Women’s 2-on-2 Beach Volleyball Tournament will be exciting to participate in and exhilarating to watch with exciting music and competitions for spectators of all ages in support of the National NCD initiatives. This will be the initial step toward building growth in this program through cooperation with other programs such as Beach Volleyball Grassroots outreach, clinics, workshops and coach/referee certifications.
In continuing our efforts to develop elite athletes here in the Marshall Islands for volleyball, we are requesting your support to help us spread the word to anyone who is interested in beach volleyball and would like the opportunity to learn the sport. MIVF is really excited and would like to express our appreciation for your support and belief in the importance of sports and athletics and their role in shaping the future leaders of our country.
