North Pacific OSEP Orientation Concluded
“Baa-aam” Danny screamed and smirked at Corrine as he slowly was filling out his evaluation form wrapping up the whole week of the OSEP North Pacific Staff Orientation. The three representatives, Corrine Hideos from Palau, Kevin Harkey from the Marshall Islands and Danny Ramngen from Yap all had to say good bye to Palau and say ‘Sulang’ (Thank-you in Palauan) to the organizers and the facilitators for the hospitality and the great experience all three experienced throughout the 4 days orientation.
In the last few hours before the conclusion of the 4 days in Koror Palau, the team confidently made big progresses and hope what has been generated in the Palau National Olympic Committee conference room will help strengthen their Sport Education Systems (SES) in their respective countries and will assist partners develop administrators and coaches in their national federations.
The three Sport Education Officers will have a busy year in 2015 going on to 2016 with a tentative work plan in place and yearly calendar ready to present to their National Olympic Committees and Sports Council.
For example, Palau Sport Education Officer Corrine Hideos is ready to coordinate and conduct 2 Sport in Communities Administrator Courses and 2 Community Coach and Official Courses in partnership with Palau National Federations and the community clubs, hoping to meet the PISEP agreed annual national target to certify 25 administrators and 25 coaches through OSEP. She is also planning on working towards becoming an OSEP Master Educator and bringing in 2 more educators on board to assist her on the program.
Danny Ramngen being the appointed full-time Education Officer for Yap Sport Council is targeting the certification of 60 administrators and 40 coaches overall, 100 OSEP certified personnel. Danny is also collaborating with OSEP to conduct a Strength & Conditioning course in Yap next week April with experts coming from Fiji and Palau.
“We are looking at a busy year and Marshall Islands is ready to drive the annual calendar once it is approved through our appropriate decision makers. Hopefully we will get confirmation by next week.” Kevin Harkey, Marshall Islands Sport Education Program Coordinator said during the orientation.
The three OSEP Officers will have OSEP Zone 1 Coordinator Jubilee Kuartei to support their progress and will make in-country visits to assist in the implementation of the programs.
