Coaching, Referee Clinic by Annie La Fleur

9/16/13 - Annie La Fleur spent a week in Majuro to conduct Basketball Referee/Coaching Clinics. Right away, she got out into the community visiting Laura Elementary School for the coaching clinic with Mouj Lewi, the National Basketball Development Officer for the Marshall Islands. During La Feur's visit, Lewi organized referee clinics as well as a score-table clinic that were presented by Sailass Katton from Internal Affairs Sports Division. Along with the clinics, Annie also visited Woja, Ajeltake and Rairok Elementary Schools and ran a training session for the Elite players of Majuro. There were a total of 21 participants from community clubs, school teachers, and the churches. The training included Theory Sessions where the participants were taken through a workbook and completed a worksheet and a Practical Session, which saw the participants on the court going through the signals and calls made in a game.

The Basketball Federation has high hope to use the new recruit of referees for their primary schools league to continue building their skills in the areas of coaching and officiating. The Marshall Islands Basketball Federation extends their gratitude to Sialass Katton and Annie La Fleur for sharing their wealth of knowledge to help develop the game of basketball in the Marshall Islands.
