A Basic Sport Medicine Course took place in Majuro November 25, 26, 27 and 29 run by Dr. Caleb Otto of Palau and Dr. Catherine Wong of Fiji. This capacity-building training opportunity was conducted under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Medical Commission and funded by the Olympic Solidarity and is intended to educate doctors, physiotherapists, trainers and coaches with practical and clinical scientific training in sport medicine.

The course included many hands on training activities such as taping injuries and CPR. Also, simulations of injury assessment. Many of the participants were from the National Federations but included Doctors and Nurses and Administrators with a total of 37 participants. The workshop was held in a high standard facility at the Capitol Building's Conference Room.

By the end of the course the participants had understanding and basic practical skills in sports medicine. Also, the participants took with them DVD of the Sports Medicine Manual, courtesy of ONOC's Medical Commission, CD of Taping Techniques, courtesy of Ms. Wong, CD on CPR, courtesy of Marshall Islands Ministry of Health's Public Health Department, and copies of all presentations. There have been talks for a follow up course in the coming months.
