Marshalls Gains Level 1 Coaches Certified in Table Tennis
Dec. 11, 2013 - Marshall Islands Table Tennis Federation (MITTF) has had the opportunity to add a total of 8 coaches who have or will complete the 50 hours of coaching required for becoming internationally recognised Level 1 Coaches certified by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), following the Level 1 Coaching Course conducted by Oceania Table Tennis Federation’s (OTTF) Sport Development Officer, Michael Brown.
Michael Brown Arrived on Majuro in the beginning of December to conduct the course, which took a full 5 days to complete. Although there are only 8 participants that will be certified upon submission of the required coaching hours, many were interested in taking the course. However, finals and holidays made it difficult for them to attend the course and put in 100 percent attendance as is required to pass the course. According to MITTF Secretary General, Kalani Nii, there would have been a potential for MITTF to have approximately 20 certified Level 1 coaches in the Marshall Islands. This shows that table tennis in the Marshall Islands is rising in popularity and has great potential for development.
The Level 1 Course covers rules of table tennis and the fundamentals needed to coach beginners to intermediate levels and beyond. The latter part of the course deals with Para Table Tennis. Those who were able to attend the course will now take the knowledge gained from the course and teach it to others that are involved in the sports, especially in development of the sport with youth and juniors.
