Kiribati Sports celebrates IDSDP2017

On the occasion of the 2017 International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) on 6 April, the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) launched the digital campaign #WePlayTogether to encourage organizations and individuals who support or carry out sport for development and peace activities to partake in the commemoration of the IDSDP. The campaign invites participants to share a picture on social media that represents for them the “power of sport to promote peace, unity and inclusion”.

The campaign joins the UN Secretary-General’s call to make “2017 a year for peace”. In addition to harnessing Goal 16 “Peace, Justice and strong institutions”, the campaign will also raise awareness about sport’s contribution to Goal 10 “Reducing inequalities” and Goal 11 “Sustainable cities and communities” of the Sustainable Development Goals in promoting initiatives that include refugees and people with disabilities.

KNOC through its mandate from the International Olympic Committee worked alongside  its member National Sports Federations to launch a digital campaign to showcase sports and sporting activities that were conducted in the country in honour of IDSDP2017. This campaign included the conduction of competition or training activities and then sharing their photos. To be included in the photos were signs or white pieces of paper showing the hastags #WePlayTogether, #IDSDP2017, #sport4betterworld and can include a theme that represents for them the “power of sport to promote, peace, unity and inclusion”.

National Sports Federations sent in their photos to the Kiribati National Olympic Committee and these were uploaded to the web alongside the hastags #WePlayTogether, #IDSDP2017 and #sport4betterworld. These photos can be seen on the KNOC website www.knoc.org.ki and KNOC facebook page @kiribatinoc

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
