The Kiribati National Olympic Committee wishes to advise that applications are invited from National Sport Federations for athletes for the Samsung Oceania Foundation/ONOC US Junior College Scholarship Programme.
Applications are for the August 2015 intake at the Junior colleges which the Oceania Foundation and ONOC have been working with over the past few years, namely: Southwestern Community College, Iowa (www.swcciowa.edu); Iowa Central Community College (www.iowacentral.edu); Iowa Lakes Community College (www.iowalakes.edu) and New Mexico Military Institute (www.nmmi.edu).
The scholarship intake process takes approximately 15 months from the initial call for applicants to the scholarship recipient commencing at the Junior College.
The procedure is as follows:
Scholarships are initially available for the sports of Athletics, Swimming, Basketball and Volleyball, but an exceptional candidate outside of these sports may be considered. Scholarships are both academic and performance - based and gender diversity is taken into account.
Scholarships cover annual return economy class airfares from the closest international airport to the college to the athlete's home country, tuition fees, board and lodging, a one off warm clothing allowance and course materials. Travel to domestic US Junior College competitions and training camps is also covered.
Successful applicants will be responsible for personal expenses (e.g. pocket money), any fees related to visa applications and, if required, costs for the "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL) examination.
Student insurance is not covered.
Applications should be firstly supported by a National Sport Federation existing in Kiribati and then submitted to the
Kiribati National Olympic Committee
