First Naoero Games set to Open

The First Naoero Games is set to open today, the 7th of November, in a short ceremony that will include an opening address by H.E. the President of Nauru, the Hon Marcus Stephen.

His Excellency arrives home this morning from Brisbane on Our Airlines and has agreed to attend the opening despite his very busy schedule, an indication of his continuing love affair with sport. Himself a former elite weightlifter, Olympian and Commonwealth Games Medallist stresses much importance on the health and fitness of the young people of Nauru and sees these Games as being an important step in encouraging the youth of the Country to take part in regular physical activity.

The Opening will take place at the Centenary Hall in Aiwo at around 9:30am and will kick off with the Powerlifting Competition.

Other sports expected to start today include Volleyball at Location Courts, Athletics with their Round the Airstrip Relay, and the highlight will be the Basketball Finals at Location from 8pm tonight.
