2010 FSM Green Steps 5K Run
November 27 - The 3rd Annual Green Steps 5K Run was held in Pohnpei. Participants collected rubbish along the roadside through Kolonia Town and planted trees at the Pohnpei Administration Building and Daini Baseball Field. Proceeds went to support T.J. Rush, Pohnpei youth tennis player attending the Oceania Tennis Academy in Nadi, Fiji, who will be competing in the upcoming Oceania Junior Tennis Tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.
Ambassador to the F.S.M. Peter A. Prahar spoke before the race stressing the importance of everyone taking steps to keeping the environment clean and beautiful - the easiest of which is to dispose of rubbish properly. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources and Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) advised the participants on proper techniques of planting various fruit-bearing trees: calamansi, sweet and sour sop.
The Green Steps 5K Run was also held in the states of Yap and Kosrae.
