Eileen And Leone Win Major Awards

Weightlifting sensation Eileen Cikamatana has capped off an amazing 2017 with the Fiji Tattslotto Sportswomen of the Year award conducted on Saturday 3rd March, 2018.

Recieving her award was her very proud mother Maketelina Cikamatana.

Mrs Cikamatana said the award was a surprise for the family but one they knew was coming.

"Eileen has achieved so much in the last year which all started four years ago," she said.

"But with this award we are thankful to Weightlifting Fiji and those that have supported Eileen throughout her career and hopefully she comes back with another medal come 2018 Commonwealth Games."

Winner of the Fiji Tattslotto Sportsman of the Year award is Fiji Airways Flying Fijians lock, Leone Nakarawa.

Flying Fijians Coach, John McKee was awarded the Fiji Water Coach of the Year while the Fiji Rugby Union was recognised as the Tappoo Sports Organisation of the year.

Meanwhile, the Sports World Team of the Year award was won by the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians.

Fiji Table Tennis Association’s Grace Yee and Vicky Wu bagged the Fortech Young Female and Powerade Young Male Athlete of the year awards respectively.

The other awards include, Technical Official of the year that was won by Earnest Movick of Fiji Hockey, Volunteer of the year was awarded to Kinisimere Ravai of Fiji Football, Special Olympic’s Robin Dayal was awarded Administrator of the year while Jonacani Lalakobau of the Fiji Times was awarded the Photograph of the year Award.

Fiji Born, Wallabies and Brumbies player Henry Speight was the guest speaker at the 2017 Fiji Sports Awards.

Henry encouraged athlets to continue to pursue for excellence adding that every Fijian abroad regardless of which sport would support their fellow countrymen.

He added that present athletes play a huge role in the lives of young budding children in Fiji looking to pursue a sport they are passionate about.

His Excellency The President Jioji Konrote also encouraged all the athletes and sporting bodies present to have a revamped and renewed sense of achievement and continue the momentum in pushing beyond their boundaries.
